Chief Ambassador, THUMA Foundation
Kabelo is an award winning Educator, Social Entrepreneur, Public Speaker, Unionist, Education Activist, Democracy and Social Justice Champion. He is also the founding Gauteng Secretary and currently the National Spokesperson for the Educators’ Union of South Africa (EUSA) which organises about 20 000 educators nationally.
He has spoken at international events like the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program and Social Justice Summit. He plays a consultancy role in various education and youth empowerment matters globally and international media houses. Kabelo has held several leadership responsibilities while still a student at the University of Pretoria and after. He has over 8 years of professional working experience and in leadership roles.
He is Chief Ambassador at THUMA Foundation, a democracy and social justice organisation which was founded by the former South African Public Protector, Professor Thuli Madonsela. He is also the Curriculum Coordinator for the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Southern Africa – South African Alumni Chapter. Some of his accolades includes being named the top 10 Social Justice Champions for 2020 by Champion SA and the 100 South African Shining Stars for 2020 by Inside Education.
He has recently started his entrepreneurial journey and he is the co-founder and executive director of The Marking APP – a mobile and web app which automatically marks school assessments while giving learners access to immediate feedback, online support and study resources. Through this project, Kabelo has received grants and support from institutions like the Young African Leaders Initiative, the Trevor Noah Foundation, Gordon Institute of Business Science Entrepreneurship Development Academy and the SAB Foundation. He is passionate about education, especially using it as a tool to alleviate poverty, bring about social justice and to strengthen democracy.
